Lucky Penny and Other Musings

The weekend turned out to be a busy one, with a few surprises.

My beau and I snuck off to see a movie, “Isle of Dogs”. We liked it because it was funny, serious, clever, and if there were any messages in it, they were subliminal.

The weather is finally getting better, and that means I am spending more time working in my gardens and enjoying other such outdoor activities. I’m looking forward to blueberry-picking soon; there are farms around my cottage that invite people to pick their own fruits and vegetables during the season. I’ve gone apple picking in Wisconsin, so blueberry picking will be an exciting adventure.

At the car wash, I found a foreign coin laying on the ground – a Polish grosz (which is sort of like a penny; it’s 1/100 of a Polish złoty). Usually, it’s Canadian coins you might find in your change, so this was a lucky surprise. Here’s a picture of it where I superimposed the obverse and reverse sides of it:

My gardens are doing spectacularly. The sugar palms are producing fruit, which is attracting birds. The bees discovered the blooming roses and bottlebrush trees. The gardenias keep popping, and the potted flowers (dianthus, petunias, and verbenas) are filling the pots nicely. The tomatoes are sprouting  more yellow flowers and fruit. Chives and mint are finding their way into my cooking already. So far, so good.

My dinner party was fun.  I served braised pork chops with grilled red peppers, asparagus polonaise, mashed potatoes, and after dinner cocktails with rousing games of backgammon.

We went to the farmer’s market Saturday, and from the produce I got, it supplied my dinner party.  I even made dill pickles from the Kirby cukes I got. They should be ready today, to have with a sandwich for lunch.

The sales of my latest novelette, “The Stars Do Not Judge“, are doing well, and if you picked up a copy, thank you! Feedback is appreciated, but not mandatory.

With the change of the season and warming weather, my schedules for working and extracurricular activities are in flux.

I think it’s high time to bring out my purple desk calendar book and get down to organizing my days to get in everything I need and want to do.
