After the weapons demonstration at the World War II Commemoration Weekend at Dade Battlefield State Park, the reenactors presented a fictionalized story that would have taken place in France, while a “British announcer from the BBC” introduced the scenario on the loudspeakers: Two American soldiers were travelling a road when their Jeep broke down.
Name, rank, and serial number were all a soldier could give up. Our heroes identified themselves as “Snuffy Smith, Private, 1234.”
While they were being interrogated, two French Resistance girls distracted them with a “Hi, Boyfriend” tease and an offer of some good French wine.
Our two American soldiers were able to high tail it out of there. Soon, a battle erupted, and eventually the German side surrendered.
The “BBC announcer” came back on the loudspeaker – “By the commands of the great American president and His Majesty the King, all dead are to arise!” (If that were only to be in real life!)
And with that, the “dead” reenactors picked themselves up and brushed themselves off to mingle with the crowd.
