We drove to the Dade Battlefield State Park over the weekend for World War II Commemoration Weekend. This week is my series on this remembrance.
There were quite a bit of reenactors dressed in World War II period uniforms, both American and German. We saw others dressed as nurses, WACS, French Resistance fighters, Hitler Youth, civilians, and the like.My beau and I were able to get a seat on the bleachers, so my photography vantage point wasn’t as good as it was in January when we attended the 1835 Dade Battle reenactment (you can read about that HERE). We didn’t want to sit on the ground since there were too many ant hills. Next time we bring chairs!
After the National Anthem and the recognition of World War II veterans and then all veterans, there was a demonstration of the type of American and German small arms weaponry used during The War. This was very interesting, especially since they fired the weapons, too, using live ammunition for the demonstration.
An interesting historical tidbit: During world War II, Dade Battlefield State Park was used as a training ground.
